Bugembe Islamic Institute, founded in 1971 by Sheik Abdul Khaliq Tariq in Jinja, began as a primary school offering both Islamic and secular studies. With land donated by the Uganda Muslim community and funding from King Faisal, it expanded into a large institute featuring farms and vocational training. Over the years, it broadened its reach with Musubi Islamic Institute, outreach centers, and programs for out-of-school youth. The institute’s mission is to produce self-reliant Ulama and Muslim professionals while actively engaging in education, community service, and Islamic propagation.
